In Tasmania. Sitting in my uni apartment right now. Seems pretty cool. No one else though, seems I'm the first here. SEEMS. There's all sorts of creepy signs of life, like a shampoo bottle and things being different. Yet no one responds. I better hide my rings.

Just the amount of people offering me beer and pork even on the way here was ridiculous.

For example on the plane: "Hi sir, are you sleepy? Would you like more pillows? Or perhaps some this can of beer and some ham sandwiches?"

It was like they sent out a memo or something

Class was canceled today and I freaked out because I was late.

I have another class in 2 hours, but now I can get my beauty rest. :p

i love writing music and FEELING music...but as a music major you're forced to focus on the most mundane technical aspects of music. it gets to the point where it's not even fun to be a musician anymore because you're doing it for the sake of a grade.

i'm a jazz guitar major (technically music ed with focus on jazz guitar) and i fucking DESPISE playing jazz. it's like i have to stop doing anything enjoyable and relearn how to play boring shit from the ground up...and since I'm a music ed major i have to take piano class and i'm just an absolute shit pianist with no prior training so i can barely stay afloat there. maybe i'd enjoy it more if i'd have chosen voice as my focus area but i just can't stand having to treat music like it's paperwork.

it also doesn't help that since duquesne's is one of the top music ed programs in the country, they hold us to ludicrous standards. anything less than a B in music ed courses is a failing grade. that means if you get an 83 percent, you fail.

i don't know what else i'd be interested in majoring in though. i was pretty convinced that i wanted to be a music teacher during high school but now i just don't know anymore. it probably sounds retarded but i think the only thing i'd truly be happy doing is performing professionally. like, acting or playing in a professional band or something, but the pay just isn't sufficient unless you're really lucky or extraordinarily talented, neither of which I feel like I am. so i'm kind of just stuck as it stands.

/yada yada

Sorta how I was with computer science. Comp Sci is a lot of fun for me, but once the academic spin is put on it I can't fucking stand it. I couldn't imagine doing music academically - hence why I didn't major in music in the first place(it was originally what I was considering, LOL.)

I myself decided to switch to Human Performance(basically athletic training and shit.) We'll see if they even let me back into college, LOL.

If you're completely lost and don't want/have already spoken to an adviser or counselor, I'd really recommend pursing something you don't already know a ton about but have an interest. I found that by knowing shit already in comp sci, I couldn't stand to do any of my programming classes. Just my two cents.

Carrion, it's the fact that you're becoming one of those textbook musicians that bothers the fuck out of me.
